Refund Policy.
At Send Me, we value every donor and the trust you place in us. We understand that circumstances can change and that giving is often personal. That's why we want to be as transparent as possible about how donations work — not just in practice, but under federal law.
Why Donations Can’t Be Refunded
We understand that sometimes things change — and truly, we care about that. But once a donation is completed, the IRS considers it a gift that legally belongs to the nonprofit, not the donor. Its not the same as buying a product or service. Here's why we’re not allowed to return it:
"It is voluntary and is made without getting, or expecting to get, anything of equal value."
— IRS Publication 526, Charitable Contributions
In addition, federal law prohibits 501(c)(3) charities from returning donated funds because:
“No part of the net earnings… may inure to the benefit of any private individual.”
— IRS 501(c)(3) Exemption Requirements
In short, giving money back would be considered a private benefit — and that could put our nonprofit’s legal status at risk.
Per the IRS, we are required to protect the integrity of all gifts — yours included. We’re happy to explain further if you have questions.
Mission Trip Payments
Sometimes donations are made toward an individual’s mission trip. These contributions are still considered tax-deductible donations, as long as they support charitable work and do not provide a significant personal benefit.
In rare cases, if a participant cancels and:
No charitable benefit has been received,
The funds have not yet been used, and
A tax receipt has not yet been issued (or can be formally voided),
…a refund may be considered. This is not guaranteed and is handled with care and full documentation to ensure IRS compliance.
Our Commitment
We never want anyone to feel stuck, confused, or unappreciated. We simply operate within the legal and ethical boundaries required of us. If you ever have questions about your donation or mission trip contribution, we’re always available to talk and walk you through the process.
