Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

Interested in helping others? You can change a life.

Guatemala exhibits one of the most extreme combinations of systemic poverty, illiteracy and inequality. Due to a lack of work, limited resources and education, Guatemala has some of the worst malnutrition rates in the world. The almost 30 year civil war destroyed families leaving hundreds of thousands of widows behind forcing them to move in with extended family, or live on the street. The average Guatemalan woman has only two years of education. The government only supports education through the 6th grade. Because education must be paid for after this, most children drop out to help support their families. You can make a difference to a widow who needs a home, a child who needs an education, or children with special needs who need adequate facilities for training.
